Summary
This presentation explores why staying current in Art trends is essential to Art Therapists in supporting culturally relevant therapeutic practices. Participants will examine a range of definitions of art, encompassing both Eurocentric academic theories and traditional cultural practices. They will be presented with a broad understanding of art and its intrinsic therapeutic value for individual and community healing. Attendees will develop the ability to critically evaluate and analyze the use of current art trends to improve individual and community mental health. Lastly, participants will be able to actively engage in the process of creating a mixed-media art piece, allowing them to deepen their understanding of the course material while also experiencing personal growth and self-reflection.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is open to art therapists and art therapy students who provide art therapy and who are comfortable using art materials to explore their own beliefs, biases and strengths.
