Course Description:
Using both didactic and experiential methods, this course will examine ethical and legal best practices and risk management strategies for the art therapist. Placing emphasis on the most common ethical and legal pitfalls, the Art Therapy Credentials Board Code of Professional Practice will be used as a framework for problem solving and a step-by-step process for making sound ethical decisions.
Objectives:

Participants will be able to discuss the historical evolution of professional ethics

Participants will be able to list the key aspects of values in the mental health professions

Participants will be able to describe the four purposes of ethical codes

Participants will learn a minimum of three risk management strategies to avoid ethical misconduct/malpractice
Presenter:
TerryTowne, ATR-BC, has over thirty years experience in the practice of art therapy. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Art Therapy Association and is a Past President of the Art Therapy Credentials Board. She was an Assistant Professor and the Clinical Coordinator of the graduate art therapy program at Albertus Magnus College. She is a frequent presenter on topics relating to the professional practice of art therapy, ethics and supervision.
