Summary

Have you been interested in incorporating music into your practice?
This workshop is designed to help you gain knowledge of the various elements of music and how to use them in working with the adult population. We will review musical applications with adults with various mental health conditions including eating disorders and addiction. This workshop will also include experiential hands-on elements as participants learn how to implement musical interventions with clients. 
2.5 CEU’s will be provided

Who Should Attend?

Clinicians who want to gain an understanding of musical applications with adult clients. Art Therapists, LMFTs, LCSWs, and LPCCs are eligible to earn CEUs.

CEU Learning Objectives

Participants will: 

  • Gain an overview of music therapy educational requirements
  • Gain understanding of music therapy applications with adult clients with: Eating Disorders, mental health challenges & Addiction
  • Learn 2 to 3 music interventions to utilize with their groups of individual clients

Experiential Component

This exciting experiential will include a drum experiential, piano improvisation experiential, and song writing!

About John Mews

John Mews, NMT, MA, AMFT, is the Founder, Director and Neurologic Music Therapist at Mewsic Moves, a private practice that offers support to families of individuals with special needs. Mewsic Moves in addition, supports clients who struggle with eating disorders, addiction and mental health challenges in various treatment centers throughout the Los Angeles area. 

John received his bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Capilano University in Vancouver, BC in 2004. After six years in private practice, John completed his master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from University of San Francisco in 2011.  Since then he has expanded his practice to provide support and education to the whole family. Recently, John has studied his advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy and is supporting clients through evidenced-based neurological music therapy practice.

John has since moved his practice to Southern California in 2013, and is grateful to have a skilled team that shares in his passion in working with children, adolescents and clients in treatment programs with eating disorders, addiction and mental health challenges. John loves to educate and advocate other of the benefits of music therapy. John also has presented at numerous workshops and conference throughout Canada and the United States. John’s passion is to educate and share the benefits of music therapy.

Course Credit: 2.5 CEUs

This is equivalent to 2.5 hours of instructional time.

Fee: $35 for SoCalATA Members, $45 for Non-Members

Light snacks, water and coffee will be provided. 

This workshop will begin promptly at 9:00am and ends at 12:00pm.


The Course meets the qualifications for 2.5 hours of continuing education credit for ATRs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. 

The course completion certificate will be awarded to registered attendees who completed the complete course at the end of the meeting.
