JURYING PROCESS & AWARDS:Jurors will select the artworks to be shown in the exhibition from the images submitted. The stated theme, Art of Healing, is expected to be appliedin the broadest sense and is intended to be inclusive rather than restrictive. It is expected that nominal cash awards will be given for First Place,Second Place, and Third Place as awarded by jurors; the final value of awards will depend upon the total of entry fees received. Jurors have thesole responsibility for the selection of the artworks and awards with no exceptions. Any works which upon arrival do not meet the expectations set by submitted sample images, may be withheld from the exhibition at jurors’ discretion.

 

ELIGIBILITY: ALL ARTISTS MUST BE CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ART THERAPY ASSOCIATION (SoCalATA). SoCalATA is the Southern California chapter of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA). You must join the national AATA organization in order to register with the SoCalATA local chapter. For information about membership visit www.ArtTherapy.org. All entries must be original artwork not shown previously at Biola University. All artistic media is eligible, including but not limited to: painting, photography, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, crafts, installation, video and digital art.

NOTE: This exhibit will be installed in the public space of the Biola University Library. Accordingly, there are practical limitations to what may be installed and or exhibited, both in terms of physical limitations and regarding content suitable for such a public space with multiple use. We are open to considering a wide range of works in both form and content, but certain works may be deemed ineligible for consideration at the joint discretion of the Biola University Library and the Art Department.

 

PRESENTATION:

Selected works must be delivered to Biola University in good condition and suitably prepared for hanging or installation. Biola will not provide frames or finishing services. The artist is responsible for providing all special or unique display props; special installation instructions must be approved in advance. Works cannot be removed prior to the close of the exhibition.

 

NOTIFICATION PROCESS:

Notification of selected and non-selected work will be sent VIA E-MAIL to the e-mail address indicated on the attached entry form.

 

ENTRY SUBMISSIONS: Deadline for entries is Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Images and entry form must be submitted via email to the address Art.Gallery@Biola.edu  Entry payment must be submitted via the “Events” page on the SoCalATA website – www.SoCalArtTherapy.org Submission must be completed on or before the deadline. Incomplete or late submissions may not be considered.

 

IMAGES:ALL IMAGES MUST CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS. Images should be submitted in JPG or JPEG format and attached to an email that clearly identifies artist’s name in the subject of the email. Images should be no larger than 1080 x 1080 pixels (or 15”x15” at 72ppi). Please name files accordingly: “FirstLast_1.jpg” – first name, last name, underscore, entry number. Entry numbers for images should match the entry numbers on your entry form. (Secondary detail images can be labeled “FirstLast_1a.jpg”, “FirstLast_1b.jpg”, etc.)  Failure to meet submission requirements may prevent works from being considered.

 

ENTRY FEES:  

There is a $10 fee for each artwork entry up to a maximum of six entries per artist ($60). Entry fees must be paid directly to SoCalATA via their website (www.SoCalArtTherapy.org). Visit for the “Art of Healing Entry” listing on their Events page to make your payment online. Be sure to submit $10 for each artwork entry as indentified on your emailed entry form.  A percentage of total entry fees will be used to provide cash awards to certain participating artists as awarded by the jurors. All remaining funds will go directly to support SoCalATA. Biola University does not receive any amount of the entry fees collected.  All fees are nonrefundable.

 

IMPORTANT INFO FOR SELECTED ARTISTS:

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK: It is the artist’s responsibility to arrange for delivery of the artwork toBiola University, La Mirada, CA, on or before Wednesday, August 20. Specific drop off times must be arranged in advance with the University Curator. Information about preferred times for delivery will be included in the acceptance notification email.  Any artwork shipped to Biola must be received on or before Wednesday, August 20, and should be packaged in a reusable container suitable for the return of work. Shipped artwork must be accompanied by a pre-paid return shipping label. All shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist.

 

LOAN AGREEMENTS: Loan agreement forms will be e-mailed to all selected artists after notification of acceptance. Completed and signed loan agreement forms must be submitted by the time of artwork delivery. Artwork will not be eligible for exhibition unless the loan agreement has been completed in their entirety by the time of artwork delivery.

 

RETURN OF ARTWORK: Exhibited work will be available for pick-up by appointment with the University Curator January 16 – January 25, 2015. Shipped works may be returned prepaid by the artist.

 

LIMITED LIABILITY: Every reasonable precaution will be taken to ensure protection and careful handling of your artwork. Biola University assumes no insurance liability for damage, theft or other loss occurring during delivery or pickup/return of artwork - insurance coverage for this exhibition applies only to the duration of the exhibition.

 

SALES: Biola University does not advertise artwork prices, mediate sales, or receive any commission on the sale of artwork in this exhibition. Any and all purchase inquiries will be routed directly to the artist who may personally facilitate any sales. However, it is always required to include a price on loan agreement documents for insurance purposes, even if work is not for sale.

 

IMAGE USE: Biola University and the SoCalATA reserve the right to photograph and reproduce images of work included in this exhibition for use in promotional material.
